Training for inaugural 2020 season begins on Monday.
MIAMI, Fla. (January 17, 2020) —
Inter Miami CF opens its first preseason training camp in Major League Soccer on Monday, January 20 at Barry University.
As of today, there are 43 days before Inter’s debut match in MLS at the Banc of California Stadium versus the Los Angeles Football Club. Between now and then, manager Diego Alonso and his newly appointed technical staff will have to get the Miami players ready for action.
The club announced its training plans yesterday. Inter Miami will train regionally throughout the state of Florida, playing a series of six training scrimmages and friendly matches – of which two are open to the public.
Inter will play the Charleston Battery in a closed-door scrimmage on Feb. 7 and another closed scrimmage Feb. 12 against New York City FC in Boca Raton, before tne latter head to Costa Rica for the Concacaf Champions League.
The preseason friendlies open to the public are:
- Feb. 15, 16:00 (4:00 p.m.) ET vs. Philadelphia Union
- Feb. 22, 19:00 (7 p.m.) ET vs. Tampa Bay Rowdies
Fans can attend all 2020 Rowdies Suncoast Invitational matches for free and without a ticket, the first time the event has done this.
There is also a preseason friendly against FC Dallas in Saint Petersburg on February 22 at 9:00 a.m. ET, but that match is a closed door event.
“We understand the unique position we are in as an expansion club coming into a new preseason with players and coaches moving into town for the first time. For us it is important to bring the players together away from distractions, so they get to know each other, train and buy into our culture and coaching philosophies in a short period of time,” said Sporting Director Paul McDonough. “We have high expectations for the new season and look to strengthen the competitive team we’ve built for our fans in South Florida.”
The plan is to open preseason camp at Barry University and hold sessions there for one week, In partnership with Baptist Health, the team will complete medical examinations/clearance before kicking off that preseason camp. The team will then travel to Port Saint Lucie and Bradenton in Florida from January 25 through February 6.
The team will then train at its new Centro Deportivo (training complex) in Fort Lauderdale for the first time from February 7 to February 14, before once again leaving South Florida for the final phase of preseason in St. Petersburg, where it will play the aforementioned open friendly matches against the Philadelphia Union and the USL Championship’s Tampa Bay Rowdies at Al Lang Stadium as part of the 2020 Rowdies Suncoast Invitational.
Fans in South Florida may also have an opportunity to see the team in training during the last week prior to the LAFC opening and we expect the club to provide further details soon.
